A Blast from Easter Past.
Here's me and my Dad, Easter way back when. It's been such beautiful weather here in Western Wisconsin. We hit a record high of 84 degrees today, breaking the record from 1946! Our normal high would only be about 50. So I have been outside, cleaning up old garden beds and soaking up the sun. I have also been feeling a bit nostalgic. It may be because my Dad passed away shortly before Easter 3 years ago. I think back to Easter past's and I remember.
Here I am with my brother Tom, wearing my brand new Easter bonnet. Of course Tom had his new Easter hat as well.
And a few years later, with my brother Tim. The 3 of us were all born bing, bing, bing. I was 2 and a half when Tim was born. My parents went on to have 5 more. Yes, there are 8 of us. Big Catholic family you know. We would always get dressed up on Easter and then after collecting our eggs and Easter baskets head off to church. Many times, we would go to my Grandma's for dinner or occasionally we would go out of town to a Aunt's or cousins home. At that time, we were living in Central Illinois.
And a few years later. There were still just 3 of us. I wonder what was so funny!!
And now, for a really good laugh. Flash forward to the mid-seventies. My boyfriend was celebrating Easter with us. Look at that granny gown I was sporting!! And here's the kicker. My Mom made my boyfriend a matching shirt, and he wore it!!! Do you think my hubby will get jealous? Nah.
So there you have it, my little bit of Easter Nostalgia. Thanks everyone for letting me go down memory lane today.
And Happy Easter !
Cindy

Oh Cindy!! I love the photos and I am sitting here at my computer laughing out loud at your boyfriend wearing a matching shirt. What a sweet young man!!
ReplyDeleteI hate to say that on Sundays when Hubby and I get ready for church, I try to have a shirt ironed for him that "goes" with my outfit. Love your mom's thinking!!
Hi Cindy! What sweet pictures! You were just a little doll and you still are a little doll! I giggled seeing those cute little laughing faces.
ReplyDeleteOh, I had my share of the granny dresses! You look adorable and look at boyfriend's shirt! Your mom must have really liked him! :)
Be a sweetie and Happy Easter,
Shelia :)

ReplyDeleteHi Cindy! I really enjoyed going down memory lane with you. I envy you coming from a big family. I was an only child and longed for brothers and sisters. How lucky you were and are. Your father was not only a good looking man, but I can just see the love for his children radiating from his face! Bentley and I wish you a blessed Easter!!

Hello Cindy,
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet trip down memory lane! Your dad was quite handsome and you were just too cute! How sweet of your boyfriend to wear the shirt your mom made for him.
Happy Easter!

Loved these pictures; especially your adorable Easter dresses!! So cute! I wish children still dressed like that (I'm certainly going to dress mine that way- who cares what modern people say!)
ReplyDeleteThat photo with you and your boyfriend is great! Especially with your matching outfits :p ♥ hehe
OMG You look like your Dad!
ReplyDeleteStill waiting for the baby . . . we're heading out the door for the 2 hour drive . . . Friday TRAFFIC - OH FUN! But hopefully we'll have a new little girl to hold when we get there!
Happy Easter my friend! Hugs. Karen
Yes, I remember those days and those dresses...and the REAL kicker sweet Cindy, is that I was your mothers age and my daughters wore those same type of dresses. I wish I had saved them. I really do but I gave them to the girls..and who knows where they went. However...lol not so sure about the shirt thingy. :) Cute idea though.
ReplyDeleteGotta hand it to that Mom of yours! Give her my best will you??
Mona
Cindy, such cute pictues and what wonderful memories. I love your dress and his shirt. Way too cute. I hope you and all your family have a Blessed Easter. Love and Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteI love your photo!! I looked for some and only found 2 of me when I was little. I know there are at least a couple more but I can't find them. Wonder if they never took anymore. We were Catholic too!!! So very nice that you have such wonderful memories...I can't find mine even though I am sure they were great!!
ReplyDeleteSoooooo sweet, Cindy!!! It looks like we grew up in the same neighborhood! :)
ReplyDeleteWishing you and your loved ones a very Happy Easter!
Hugs,
Zuzu
Oh my gosh, Cindy, you've awakened memories. I wore granny dresses like that one. I made them and believe me I am NOT a good seamstress. I can spin, weave, dye, knit, draw, crochet, make baskets, but sew a straight seam...NEVER. I am afflicted.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter to you and yours and I am holding you to your promise to come see me when I speak in La Crosse.
Sending love,

Oh, how those pics brought back memories for me. You all are so cute dressed up. And matching shirt & granny gown ... oh, my! It was a lovely walk down memory lane with you, Cindy. TY for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter!
Have a beautiful weekend.
TTFN ~ Hugs, Marydon
Cute pics! The crinoline dress is so pretty (and so are you!)
ReplyDeleteLoved the pictures - I can relate. we are about the same age. Here in NE Wisconsin the temps did not hit the high 70's or 80's and today the wind is blowing all the warm air away.
ReplyDeleteI remember new shoes at Easter and our mom dressed my sister and I alike, and the boys alike.
I did live in LaX for college.
Cindy, I had a granny gown very similar to that one! These photos are adorable! What a cute little girl you were! laurie
