Everything but the kitchen sink!

My DH has been working tirelessly over the past several weeks redoing our kitchen cabinets.
Today I thought I would share with you a sneak peek.
On the left you can see the before.
They are a cathedral style and we have been talking about painting them for the past two summers.

But Dan had a better idea.  He felt that the cathedral style would not really fit with our cottage style kitchen.  So he went about changing the style.  I am thrilled with how they are turning out.   These are not new cupboard doors, they are just re-made.
Some of the details:  He planed and sanded the cathedral style doors down.  He then built a new frame and added wainscoting.  Then onto priming, painting, poly and replacing hardware.
He is getting close now and soon I can have a big kitchen reveal.

DH had eleven of his woodworking students take their projects to our county fair this year.  This roll top desk was one of the top finishers.  The kids get quite competitive and my DH has an extra prize for the top 3 places.
This lovely cabinet was the best of show. Dan says the kid who built this spent numerous hours before school, after school and in class.  I think he did an amazing job!

And speaking of the fair, our little grand-daughter spent a lot of time with us there.
She sure loves it and not just the rides.  In fact, I would say the small animals are her fave.

She did a lot of chicken holding at the fair!  A friend has chickens and I mean a lot of chickens.  Every breed you can imagine.  She patiently let Addison pet and hold nearly everyone she had brought.  This rooster was nearly as big as little Addison.
I have to say I was impressed with her bravery.  She got pecked a few times but mostly just brushed it off.

There were a few very calm hens who would literally sit on her lap for as long as she was willing.  Oh their feathers are so soft.  This gal was just the sweetest bird!  And the other little gal is awfully sweet too.

My little Arizona grand-baby celebrated birthday number 2!!
I got to see her open our presents on Skype.
And as you can see, she enjoyed her cake as well.
I will be heading out to see her in early October and of course I can't wait.

So there you go friends, a little bit of everything except the kitchen sink.
Cindy

  2. I love the cabinet updates. My old cabinets could use a facelift but I doubt we'll ever manage a task that large.

  6. I love everything about your kitchen remodel! Of course, white wainscoting is one of my favorites and I hope the next house we own will have a touch of it.
Love that your grands love animals-a county fair-how fun. Your hubby must be one talented teacher to have his students produce such nice work.
Have a great day and thanks for sharing.

  8. Hi Cindy! Oh, your cabinets are going to be beautiful! I love the beadboard panels and the hardware is just gorgeous. Wish I had those. Your husband is just amazing as well as his students. I remember my son making a little shelf and I mean little in 'shop' as we called it. Your hubby's students are just fabulous. The rolltop desk and hutch are so beautiful. Do the students keep their pieces?

So sweet how your granddaughter loves those chickens.
Now, the one in Arizona is sure enjoying her cake. I know how it is to have grandchildren afar.
The last cabinet that the student made is amazing. I would say he has a future ahead of him.

  13. I have 2 little granddaughters who live on a farm & they just love chickens and all the sheep. Miss lexi (3) told me last weekend she saw a snake in the d shed (unusual for this time of the year) and she said daddy didn't kill it because it was a blanket snake !??? We realised she meant a carpet snake!!! The animals are just so great for little kids to enjoy!! Great photos

  16. I don't know where to start! You are so lucky that your husband is that talented! I really thought you had new cabinets or at least new fronts. To remake them...wow! I also can't believe how wonderful the items are that the kids made. It is nice to see them learning from a great teacher! Your grands are darling and growing up fast!

  17. HOW I would love to paint our kitchen cabinets, but PH just won't hear of it. I guess the dark wood was picked out by his late wife and so I have to be patient. I have already change his entire home..from top to bottom so..I have stopped asking.

Addison is still the cutest little thing ever! The "cake face" in Arizona takes the prize!! The BEST I've ever seen and believe me, I 've see a lot of them..including my own seven..and the 14 grands! Yep..that picture is ...is..just makes me smile!! And by the way...HOW COME YOU GET TO HAVE LITTLE BLONDS and I don't?? LOL

  18. Addison is just sooo photogenic. That picture of that tiny girl taking the giant rooster into her arms, is just adorable. I had seen your kitchen cabinets on FB. They are perfect. Your husband and his students never cease to amaze me. Wow! That roll top desk and that cabinet are amazing! He must be very good at inspiring students if they want to spend so many extra hours on their projects. Cute little Castinlina (not sure about her name?) with that cake all over her face. I know you wish you could have been there to see that in person. laurie
