I'm hooked on vintage chenille!!

Right now I have a new love and it's vintage chenille bedspreads and quilts.
I've spent countless hours on E-Bay looking at them, bidding on them and kind of sorta realizing that a lot of them are bidding out pretty darn high.

I wanted one for the room we call Addison's room.
Previously known as my daughter Katie's room.
Or as Addison would say in her cute little 2 year old voice, "it's mine now". hehe.

As you can see here, I thought it would look kind of cool to have the sun streaming in.  But instead it kind of made it a little harder to get a good picture.

So i kept looking and looking and bidding and being outbid and knowing I had to keep in my budget.
And finally score!
Starting bid was $15.00.
I bid and this time I got lucky.
Total cost $15.00 plus $10.00 shipping for a grand total of $25.00!!
And it's in excellent shape and just the color and style I was looking for.
And lately I've been eyeing one's for a Master bedroom.
The one I really loved went for $170.00 last week.
So I will keep looking and who knows...
I might get lucky again!

So there you have it, my new found love, vintage chenille!
Thanks for coming by,
Cindy

  4. Hi Cindy! OH, the bedspread is so sweet! My mother had chenille spreads and had one on her bed that was a peacock! I thought it was the prettiest thing I'd ever seen when I was a little girl.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia :)

  5. I found my childhood matching twin white chenille spreads in my mother's linen closet. I have used them for pillows and backing of pillows. They were too worn in some areas to use as spreads. I feel nostalgic when I look at my chenille pillows on my garden bench.

  8. LOVE it!!! Chenille coverlets remind me of my Grandmother's house. She had those on all the beds. I have a creamy colonial-style chenille cover that I purchased about 3 years ago, when I redid my son's room. But I found out that the beds are so much higher these days ( mattresses and box springs both a lot thicker) than they used to be, so the chenille cover doesn't come down to the floor as it should and it just didn't look right, for a boys room, to have layers underneath it. So I will look for a King size, and see if that will work on a high sitting Queen. But, I don't even know if they had King sized beds back in those days. Sigh, I may just have to get a newly made one and forget the whole vintage thing.

  9. I love Chenille too, Cindy! And, the one you purchased is so pretty. I saw a Chenille bedspread on Pinterest used to cover a chair and it looked great!!! If I ever see one I can afford, I have a chair in my living room that would look nice with a Chenille cover.

  10. It's beautiful, Cindy. It's cool that Addison is out of her crib already, she is growing up so fast! It's funny that you posted this today, I bid on a cutting board and some dried hydrangeas and it turned into a bidding war tonight with the last 15 minutes remaining, and I won!!! I can see how this could get addicting!!

    XO,
    Jane

  11. How very pretty Cindy,
I see many of these when I'm in antique shops - I love seeing teddy bears made from them .... but even better being used on beds.

  16. Addison's room is adorable. I love her chenille bedspread. I remember having those on our beds as a child. Also, my mother-in-law had chenille bedspreads in the summer months and a heavier type of bedspread in the colder months. She was an excellent homemaker. She really had a lot of joy and pride in making her home as nice, clean, and comfortable as possible.
    Blessings, Beth

  19. What a cute bedroom! No wonder Addison loves it. My mom has sold quite a few chenille bedspreads on eBay and you're right - they bring a nice price. She has found some of hers at Goodwill. :-)
