Welcome to another Met Monday, sponsored by our lovely hostess Susan. To see other wonderful transformations visit
http://betweennapsontheporchblogspot.com/ . When we moved from town to our country cottage the living room was the first thing we needed to tackle. The living room had old white dingy carpeting, off white walls and ugly brown curtains. We decided that hardwood was the way to go! My talented DH and I picked out hickory to go with the somewhat rustic look of the room. I don't have a lot of before pics, but here he is starting to lay the floor. He had already pulled out the carpeting and put down and
underlayment.
Here he is hard at work! Each piece has to be laid out in a pattern before he starts working on that section. My in-laws and I would be laying out the hardwood and try to stay a little bit ahead of him.
About 1/4 way done. You can see all the various equipment needed.
There is a special compression nailing machine he uses.
Oh yes, Looking good and about 3/4 way done.
OOPS-- same pic again. And Mega hours later. The labor is quite intensive. Marrying a Building Construction/Woodworking Teacher
certainly has it's perks!!
Finished product. We painted the walls a butter cookie and got rid of the ugly brown curtains.
Another view, I am so happy with the way it turned out. I think that hickory was the right choice for this room. Thanks for stopping by, Cindy
What a difference Cindy! Your room is so warm and inviting now! I love wood floors and think they make all the difference in the world!!!! :D Jewel
ReplyDeletei think its absolutely stunning. It is so great when we can do the work ourselves. i love your color choices.,,very relaxing.

You are one lucky woman.
ReplyDeleteWere the floors prefinished? They look so shiny! I loved the garage door makeover, too. I can't wait to see what else you all have done.
I am in love with the stone fireplace.
Cindy, isn't it wonderful to have a DH who is so handy? Mine is too, and I really appreciate it! I love the floors, and that quilt is gorgeous! You asked about my chair and sofa...the chair was given to us 38 years ago covered in brown naugahyde (sp?)! The sofa is about 20 years old...we had them both recovered in blue toile and blue plaid 8 years ago. At that time we had blue & white wallpaper, but now that it's gone I am having trouble pulling the whole room together.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I can't believe the difference the floor made! It's wonderful to have such a handy man!
ReplyDeleteI love the blue toile...gorgeous!

THIS ROOM TURNED OUT BEAUTIFULLY AND I LOVE YOUR DAUGHTERS HEADBOARD...THAT WAS REALLY PRETTY...THANK GOODNESS YOUR HUSBAND CAN DO ALL THESE THINGS. I TELL EVERYONE THERE IS NOT ANYTHING MY HUSBAND CANNOT MAKE OR FIX BUT HE WOULD NEED A VIRTUAL BANK ACCOUNT IN ORDER TO BUY AND REPLACE ALL THE THINGS HE CUT TOO SHORT...AT A WRONG ANGLE AND BLADES HE BROKE AND DRILL BITS THAT BROKE BUT GOD LOVE HIM...HE GETS IT DONE....IT USUALLY TAKES HIM FIVE YEARS TO TAKE THE MEMO I SEND HIM TO THE DAY HE BUYS THE PARTS AND THEN ANOTHER 2 WEEKS BECAUSE HE IS EXHAUSTED FROM SHOPPING AT LOWE'S BUT MENTION GOLF...IT IS THE FUNNIEST THING...HE IS DOWNRIGHT FULL OF ENERGY....LOL...GO FIGURE

Congratulations, your floors are so beautiful! You did a great job! ♥ Diane
ReplyDeleteCindy thanks for your visit! i love your floors! last year my husband, daughter, neighbor and myself put hardwood down in our 26x28 great room. We got it done in one evening all of us working our asses off, but afterward I could barely make it up the stairs to bed, my body was insome serious amount of pain! But I agree it is worth it in the end, and if we would have had to buy the flooring and pay to have it installed, it wouldnt have been possible! It is nice to be married to a handy guy! Do you have any specific cant miss spots we should check out while we are in Sedona?? I figure bloggers testimonials are better then any travel book! Stop back anytime!
