Sunday Favorite's/ Michigan's Upper Peninsula/The Edmund Fitzgerald

Welcome to another Sunday Favorites ! Our hostess with the mostest, is the darling Chari. Make sure you head on over to her blog by clicking the link above. Chari has the most beautiful blog and you will find links to other great Sunday Favorites! I've added a few pics to this previous Outdoor Wednesday post.( turn up music here) One of the interesting places we toured last summer, while visiting Michigan's Upper Peninsula was the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum. This museum, is located on Lake Superior's Whitefish Point, also known as the Graveyard of the Great Lakes. More vessels have been lost here than anywhere else along the Great Lakes, including the Edmund Fitzgerald.

An inside pic, doesn't he appear real!

On November 10th, 1975 the Edmund Fitzgerald struggled towards Whitefish Bay. The Captain radioed that it was the worse seas he had ever seen, when suddenly the light and radio beacon at Whitefish Point went off. The captain and his crew were left to navigate this horrible storm alone without any homing equipment

An outdoor view of the museum, lighthouse and more at Whitefish Point.

The Edmund Fitzgerald story.

More Pics along Lake Superior's rugged shore.

Pictured Rock along the UP. Scroll on down for my original post.

Welcome to my first Outdoor Wednesday, sponsored by our lovely hostess Susan at http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com/ Please visit her site for more lovely postings. This is a pic I took last summer along Lake Michigan. I don't have the greatest digital camera, but it was just starting to get light out, and I thought I would give it a try!

This pretty waterfall is Tahquamenon Falls. Located along Michigan's Upper Peninsula, it's a big one, and it gets it's color from the iron ore that was mined in this area. The color made it look like a big root beer float, and I kept thinking I could reach out and drink it!

Pictured Rocks lake shore located along Michigan's Upper Peninsula goes for almost 20 miles and is a colorful expanse of forest -topped rocks. This was truly a breathtaking tour, and one I would truly like to take again. It was so peaceful and the water was a stunning turquoise color. Thanks for stopping by, Cindy

  1. Ahhhhh - - - Lake Superior. I "stomped" in those grounds, only not in the UP of MI, but the UPper quarter of WI. :-)

  4. I loved the rootbeer float falls photo. Makes me want to have a rootbeer float right about now.

I have never been to any of the great lakes. I'd hate to be out on them in a bad storm. Wouldn't want to end up at the bottom. Yikes!

  7. I've always loved that song, Cindy, and it's so neat that you got to go to that museum! I don't know very much about Michigan, but when my father was a boy, he and his family would spend summers in Bay View. That was in the early 1900's. I've always wanted to go to that area and see the sites. Glad you got to do this! And I love your other Outdoor Wednesday shots, too. Beautiful!

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  8. Happy 2nd time around Sunday!

I'm from Minnesota, and was staying up in a little place called Dodge's Log Lodges, the year the Edmund Fitzgerald went down.

I was there to work on my failing marriage, and I'll never forget the sadness, the tragedy of those events. They are kind of tied together in my mind, heart -

Great beauty in Michigan, much like where I am from. Thanks for sharing.

  12. Cindy you always have such wonderful posts. What a gorgeous waterfall. It does look like a giant root beer float! The last shot of the tree topped rock formations was the best. Such amazing scenery. Wish I lived closer so I could experience it myself. What a wondeful place to have a home overlooking that shoreline. Oh! Wouldn't that be great! Hugs, Loretta

  16. Cindy! Where is CC? Have you heard from her? She has been MIA for quite sometime now. I cannot find her phone number. Do you have it? Maybe give her a buzz and see if all is well. I'm hoping it is just computer problems.
    Let me know. Karen

  17. Hey Girlfriend...

Just read the sweet note that you left in my office...so happy to see you today!!!

I don't know if I told you that I showed your yard post to Russell or not? I also showed him this post...he's fascinated with shipwrecks! He loved ya'lls beautiful yard...I told him I wanted a view like the one you have from your front porch! It might be kind of hard though, we have a few rolling hills around here but they are few and far between...hehe! What are you up to today, Darlin'? I keep meaning to ask you if you work...I read your profile awhile back and see that you're a family advocate? Anyway, just wondering if you have a 9 to 5 everyday?

Have a marvelous Monday, my friend!
    Love ya,
    Chari

  23. Hey Cindy, Beautiful pics - wow - gorgeous scenery. To answer your question....no, I am not up to anything! But whenever we get another camera, I want to have a good idea of what works. I get great shots of family, but my still shots for my post are lacking. Oh, how does your sister like her seagrass rug? Most comments have been negative, but I have 2 friends here who absolutely LOVE their seagrass and have had it for some time. Hmmmmm Linda
