Pillow Bug, thrifty finds and a question???

I went shopping for some fabric on Thursday.  It seems I've caught the pillow bug from Marty!  But let me say this, 20 minutes for Marty equals all morning for Cindy!  I've made a few pillows in my life, but these corded babies are another thing.   (Pic above is the fabric I chose next to my denim couch)
I had so much trouble with the rounded edges and the cording.  But I wasn't going to give up!  Although their not perfect, there OK.

And after lot's of frustration, here they are!
And Marty's tutorial is just perfect and so easy to follow.  Check out her blog here @ A Stroll Thru Life.

And now I'm on a pillow kick and want to make more!

And I did a little re-arranging on one of the kitchen counters.

I think it gives it a little more punch!

I  also found a few thrifty finds this past weekend .
This oversize cup and saucer with the cute little bumble bees was only a buck.

And these two sweet little pillows were also only a dollar a piece!
There's that pillow thing again!
OK, now here's something different.   I tried that blue hour thingy.  I don't have a tripod or probably the right camera for the best evening shots, but still......

It's pretty blue !
It was about 9:15 p.m. when I took this pic.  Were pretty North so our blue hour is probably later than many of you.   I remember being in Northern Michigan two summers ago and at 10:00 p.m. it was still perfectly light out.
And a question?????
Do you have a favorite summer vacation destination and where is it?
Curious minds, (mine) want to know.

Have a great week,
Cindy

  2. Oh Cindy, you did a fabulous job with your pillows. The cording isn't that hard is it. Just make sure you clip the edge of your selvage when you want to turn a corner and it will be so much easier to do. I think you did a very professional job. They look fabulous. Love your new vignette on the counters too. It looks so light and airy for summer. You blue picture is perfect too. I love it. When you come out in Aug. I will take you to that fabric store. You will really love it. So much fun and they have a ton of fabric to choose from. You'd better bring another suitcase of else plan on shipping home. I can't seem to get out of there without a bunch. Hugs. Marty

  3. Cindy! Your pillows are wonderful! I am loving the blue photo. I have to try it.

Our favorite summer designation is the Lake of the Ozarks. Only about 45 minutes from our house and we can go during the week when it is not so busy!

  6. Cindy, you created some pretty pillows. Well done. My sister and her husband live in western Wisconsin, and we grew up near Lake Michigan, so I know how great your state is.

  7. Cindy, atta girl for the pillows! And you got some great finds, too. As for vacation, we love Hilton Head beach in South Carolina, but we take our summer vacation in October when it's cool and the crowds are non-existent. Linda

  8. I think your pillows turned out great. I want to try making some, too. Seeing them all over blog land makes you want to try new things. That giant cup and saucer was a great buy. I just looked at those at Michael's the other day and I believe they were priced in the teens.

  15. I am more than impressed! I could not begin to do that! Our favorite place to go in the world is Destin, FL. I think we might miss it for the first time in over 30 years this summer :( waiting to hear about the oil :(

  16. Your house looks beautiful; I love the pillows!!

My favorite travel destination (other than the Cape, where I'll be going for the first time next week!) has to be Wrightsville Beach in North Carolina. I absolutely love it there!

  18. Nice finds! You did good on the pillows. My daughter has my sewing machine, so won't be making any anytime soon. You did great on the blue hour. I took some pics. a few days ago, but apparently did not have the camera on the right setting because it was definitely the blue hour.
    Have a great week.

  19. Hi Cindy! Your pillows look great! I am impressed that you made cording...awesome. I'm high fiving you, via blogland! ;-) I don't think my ancient, and I do mean ancient, sewing machine could handle it. LOL
Love your blue hour pic...gorgeous! Our blue hour is quite late too...and it keeps changing as the season wears on. I bet it's probably around 9:15 by now because last time I took a blue hour pic, the blue hour didn't start until 8:45 or something like that. Great job catching it...isn't it just the neatest thing! :-)

I thought you'd post your special find you got today!
I hope you are able to come! I can't wait to see all of you again!
We are going to have such fun!!!

  24. I think the pillows look very good -- it's not easy to do this. I remember my grandmother doing it and it requires skill, which you obviously have. You're far braver than I. Hope you'll stop by and get in on our glass vessel sink giveaway if you haven't already. Jane F

  25. Cindy, I think you did a fabulous job with your pillows! I was just telling Adelaide yesterday that I want a machine, and she did some research for me to see which one might be the best choice. I might get a Brother, but I'm going to check with a friend whose grandmother owned a sewing machine store to see what she thinks. I thought I would start with a mid-range machine, and if it works, I might just move on up! ;-)

Your mug is very, very cute, too. Love the bumble bee, and seeing your counters sounds an alarm. Mine need to be decluttered!

Hope you are having a good week. I'm up for air today, and I wanted to be sure and get by here to see you. Now, I might have to pop over to Marty's and see her tutorial.

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  26. I adore your pillows~particularly the $1 welcome one. :)

I have always wanted to go to Prince Edward Island and Mackinac Island here in North America and I have way to many favorites in Europe.

To narrow it down what type of experience are you looking for?

  28. Love the fabric you chose to go with the denim and you're a brave soul to make corded pillows. Yours look wonderful, if I tired it they would be disastrous!

My favorite vacation destination is — surprise, surprise — the beach! Any time, anywhere.

  34. Your pillows---I love the colors in them--so cheerul; I don't think I would have the patience!! I know I wouldn't! I can't believe the blue sky picture. I have never tried it. I think I may have too many trees around me to get a good pic of the sky. Not sure what time it would be here either!

  35. Love the pillows...I got some this weekend too, but I didn't make mine (couldn't possibly). As for summer vacation spots...I just love to be near the water. I love Siesta Key (where my parent's home is) and Marco Island in Florida. I don't like the heat as much as I used to, so going north is fun to beat the heat!

  36. You did a great job on your pillows. I've never tried making a corded one, I'm going to have to check out that tutorial. I just made a bunch of pillow with fabric placemats. I ripped out one side, stuffed them, and sewed them back up. That's the kind of pillows I make :-)

  44. Hi Girlfriend...

Ohhh my...here I am playing catch up again! Girl, I've been a busy little bee working in my master bedroom...trying to summerize is a bit! I haven't gotten much blogging done...I'm not a very good multi-tasker, I guess! Hehe!

Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that I love, love, LOVE your new pillows! That yellow and blue striped fabric is sooo pretty and summery...they look really pretty on your denim sofa! Looks like you did a fabulous job to me! I have only made one pillow using the cording...the key word here is "one"! After that one...I have never tried another! They really are soooo pretty with the cording though!!! Love the pillows you found for just $1...great deal! My favorite is the yellow pillow with the "welcome" on it...beautiful! Did you put those in your guest room?

Love your new counter vignette! Girlfriend, I need some of those white canisters! Where did you find those? Love them! Ohhh...and I know that I've said it before but...I really do love that gorgeous copper tin backsplash!!! It's just stunning...I bet it's one of the first thing you notice when going into your kitchen!

Okay...I think the find of the week is that darling bee teacup planter...love, love, LOVE THAT!!! Have you seen the new teacups and teapot planters at Walmart? I really want one of those! Hehe!

Well Darlin'...I really enjoyed seeing all of your new pretties...such a treat!!! I hope that you and Dan are having a wonderful weekend!!!

    Love ya,
    Chari
