Outdoor Wednesday/ Beautiful Door County, Wisc.

Dan and I recently took a little jaunt to the other side of Wisconsin. Door County is a well known tourist destination and with good reason. Although we have visited numerous times each visit is still a new experience. With the beauty of Lake Michigan and quaint little towns with names like Fish Creek and Egg harbor there are days and days of things to explore. Door County is know for it's beauty, cherry trees, lighthouses, fish boils and of course the Lake. The numerous charming shops in each little town add to the fun! See map below for a view of the county.

Numerous lighthouses dot the shores. There are many state parks to explore with miles of beaches and lighthouses.

After a brief storm, a rainbow appeared and Dan was able to get the shot!

The sun sparkles off of Lake Michigan!

A well known restaurant draws crowds with their grass roof and live-in lawn mowers.

Another view! The day was beautiful and they seemed quite content .

A fish boil is one of my favorite Door County traditions. They use fresh White Fish from where else,.... Lake Michigan. The pot is filled with fish, potatoes, and onions.

One of the cooks explains the history of the Door County Fish Boil.

One more step before dinner is served.

One more stir and dinner is served!

Don't forget to visit our hostess Susan by clicking on the logo above. There are so many wonderful Outdoor Posts to enjoy. Thanks Susan!

  1. Oh Cindy you always post the best pictures of places you've visited! The first two pictures touched my heart because both symbolize our gracious God! The lighthouse is often used to symbolize our Savior Jesus Christ, who is the light in the storm! The rainbow is a promise from God! The little guys on the grass roof are a hoot! How fun is that! The food sounds delicious too! You always find such wonderful things to post about. I love visiting you! Have a great evening. Hugs, Loretta

  3. Cindy,

Beautiful pics of my favorite lake! ;-)

I have never been to Door County, but my husband has. It must take DAYS to see everything!! I'd love to go to a real fish boil. I am always talking about having one of my own on the beach, but don't have the right pot. The fire after the feast was cooked was spectacular!!

So glad you are both having a wonderful time!!

  5. Hi Cindy! I have never seen grass on roofs except in Norway. In fact, I just posted it on last Saturday's Sightseeing Sat. The fish boil looks so good and so interesting. The scenery there is so serene. Thanks for stopping by my blog and you can visit and stay with us ANYTIME!...Christine

  7. Holy Cow Cindy, those fish boil pix were cool. I always wanted to visit Door County. I've only heard great things about it. Your pix only make me wish I were there now. Now that I am "semi-retired" I should have plenty of time to vacation next summer. ~ Robyn

  12. Hi Cindy-
Your photos are wonderful! The one of the sun on Lake Michigan is my favorite...it is so beautiful. Add a palm tree and it could be a picture of the Gulf. The goats are adorable, too. The lighthouse is a design I have not seen before. Are the others on the lake built in the same design? Thanks so much for sharing your trip.

    Smiles,

  19. Cindy, what wonderful photos. The goats on the roof really made me smile. We hire a flock to tend our hillside when it gets unruly. I hope you are having a great day.

  21. Door County is beautiful -- we've been there -- seen that roof and those goats (maybe not those, but some goats on that roof!) and although we didn't have a Wisconsin fish boill there -- we did have one here -- complete with kerosene and fire!

Girl...I'm so sorry that it's been a few days since I've gotten over for a visit! I've missed you!!! I just read the sweet note that you left for me on my "Celebration Giveaway"...Girl, you just cracked me up!!! Hehe!!! You know that I just adore you, don't you? You always make me smile...dear friend!!! Of course, I wish you the very best for the book giveaway...I know that you would certainly enjoy these books!!! Thank you so much for the sweet, sweet birthday and blog well wishes! I had a fabulous birthday! By the way...I know it's a bit early but Happy Birthday to you too, Sweetie!!! Girlfriend, I just wished we lived closer...we could really paint the town red with celebrating our birthdays! Hehe! Do you have any special plans? I really enjoyed my day...had calls and birthday wishes from my girls and grandkids...so sweet! Russell gave me red roses...and took me out for dinner! He also got me one of those stacking cake plates on pedistals. Have you ever seen them? They're just 3 pedistal cake plates that you can stack on top of one another. I've been wanting one for the longest time...thought I could use it for a table centerpiece. Anyway...it was great!!!

Well Darlin'...it looks like ya'll had a fabulous time on your trip to Door County!!! Ohhhh...I would just love to go there...your description of the quaint little towns, specialty shops...and Ohhh...the views are just spectacular!!! Girl, the photos that you posted are simply gorgeous!!! I love the lighthouse in the mist!!! Ohhh...and the rainbow photo was absolutely divine...such gorgeous views!!! Okay...okay...I do believe that is the very first time I've seen a restaurant with a grass roof with goats grazing upon it!!! I had to look twice!!! Hehe! That's just amazing...and so much fun!!! Bet they get lots of business from people just coming out to see that! Mmmmm...yummy!!! The fish boil sounds scrumptious...I love fish and there traditional way of cooking it sounds so good! What a wonderful trip...I'm so happy that ya'll had such a great time!!! I loved seeing your photos...they really should be in a travel magazine for Door County...they're exquisite, Cindy!!!

Well my friend...I also went through the post of Cloie's baptism! That was so sweet!!! I especially liked that the minister did the baptism down at the lake...so special!!! Lake Pepin is certainly beautiful but not half as beautiful as your little Cloie!!! She is absolutely precious!!! Thanks for sharing this special day with us!!!

  27. Okay what did I miss??? Why did only one other person comment on that huge fire that engulfed the pot cooking the fish boil? Is that something they do on purpose? and is it safe....doesn't look safe to me.....what's the story.....it seems everyone else knew this is how a fish boil works....

  29. HI Cindy, thanks for coming by. You are right, the Nutt Family were one of Natchez' richest before the civil war. But they lost all their money during the war because they could not ship out their cotton and just like everyone else at that time, they were looted. Mr. Nutt died partly because of depression for not being able to finish the house as he promised his wife. His wife brought up all the children by selling onions and something else I could not remember. It's truly a sad story b/c the house would have been so pretty. It had skylights that would have brought light all the way to the basement....Christine

  33. Hi Cindy. I just found this post after poking around here a little bit after the Let There Be White event. I live in Wisconsin too - in the Milwaukee area :) We've only been to Door County once years ago because my family used to have a lake home near Minoqua so we'd always go there.

We'll be having a lobster boil (done just like the fish boil) hosted by friends in our gourmet group over the Labor Day weekend. It's always a big hit with the group.
