Sunday Favorites/EXTREME GARAGE DOOR'S MAKE-OVER

The first Sunday Favorites is the brainchild of Chari. Chari is the neatest lady with the nicest blog and fabulous ideas on decorating. She also has a great sense of humor. Visit her blog for more Sunday Favorites @ http://happytodesign.blogspot.com/ . My First Sunday Favorite is also my First Met Monday post. A lot of you have asked about our garage doors so I thought I would re- post them here. Thanks Chari!

Preparing the pieces. Prime, Paint,Prime,Paint....

We wanted to do something to change the look of our garage doors, but the wood replacement doors that we looked at were very expensive. My husband Dan, being the creative and talented woodworking and building construction teacher that he is sketched out his idea and went to work. Below, boring brown steel doors

. He began by making 220 individual pieces out of Northern white pine. He cut, primed and painted everyone of those 220 pieces.

He built a frame and glued and screwed all of them in place. He even designed and made the black side pieces out of pine to save money and make them look like wrought iron. Below, one door almost done....

80 hours later, the finished product. The total cost about $200, compare to several thousand dollars to buy.

The finished view. I feel lucky to have such a talented husband.

I hope you enjoyed our tour. Stop back again, Cindy

  1. Oh.my.goodness. This is a fabulous project. I want carriage doors on my garage, too and haven't had the cash to do it. However, I don't have a husband who would/could/want to/ do this! Lucky girl!

P.S. I'm not sure if most folks know to click on the time to get to the comment box. Another blogger friend of mine added a little line to the bottom of her posts telling folks to do that because some folks weren't sure how to leave a comment. Just wanted to mention it so you don't miss any comments on this beautiful transformation. :-) Great Met Monday post!

  28. Hi Cindy...

Yay!!! You did it...you did it!!! Girlfriend, I'm so happy that you're participating in "Sunday Favorites"!!! Thank you so much for the sweet, sweet "mention" at the beginning of your post...gosh, I'm blushin' here! Hehe!!! Sure do appreciate it, Sweetie!!!

Girl, you couldn't have chosen a better post to re-share for Sunday Favorites! I was just admiring your fabulous garage doors just a few days ago in one of your posts (think I mentioned it even) Not to mention, I think I missed this post the first time around...so it's new to me! I'm so glad that you showed the "how to's" of this project! I had no idea that your talented husband made the doors!!! WOW!!! I'm sooo impressed...that was alot of planning, measuring, sawing, painting, and whew...building!!! But it turned out fabulous! You know, I didn't even realize that the pretty black side pieces weren't iron until you mentioned it! What a grand idea!!! You'll have to give your honey a pat on the back for me, my friend!!! As soon as my honey comes home, I'd like to show him your pretty garage doors...keep your fingers crossed...maybe he could do something like this to ours! I'd love it!!!

Thanks again, Sweetie...for joining in Sunday Favorites...
    Love ya,
    Chari
PS...Hmmm...wonder why you had so much trouble with getting the time changed to post??? That's weird! Hope it won't discourage you from joining in with us again!!!

  31. Oh my gosh! Those doors are amazing now. I just told my hubby the other day that someday I'd like to have garage doors that look like carriage doors. He just laughed at me. I will have to show him what your husband accomplished. Way to go!

  32. Hi Cindy!
Wow -- the difference in those garage doors is amazing. Your husband is beyond talented -- he is GIFTED!!!
Where do you find a husband who can do these things? Mine can open a bottle of wine and make restaurant reservations, and he's pretty good at picking up dog poo in the yard. :-)

But transforming garage doors? WAY beyond his talents! Those carriage doors are brilliant.
