Our Top Ten Projects of 2010!!

Hi All!
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!  This year was very special for us.  We had a new baby in the family and for the first time in 4 years,  my son and his wife were able to be with us at Christmas.
It made for a very special time!
Looking back on old blog posts is like a mini time-capsule!  So with that in mind, I am joining Rhoda of Southern Hospitality for her Top Ten Projects of 2010 and Kim @ Savvy Southern Style for Show me your Best of 2010.  Some were my projects, some were my talented husband's and some were ours together!

For this hutch project, I used toile fabric and cardboard to add some color and depth!
I loved how it turned out and it was so inexpensive to create! I just cut the fabric to fit the cardboard and slid it in.  My hubby had cut the cardboard so that it would fit nice and snug and we stretched the fabric and stapled!  Easy, Peasy!

This past year I made a few pillows!

I made this for my daughter Katie for a Valentine's present.  I used some of her old skating dress fabric to fashion a heart pillow!

In May, we spruced up the front porch with a new table, chairs and rug!
Of course a little tablescaping was in order!

I made these fun place-mats for the 4th of July!  I used left-over burlap and old jeans for the pockets!

I invited my in-laws over and served them dinner out here!  I think they really enjoyed it.

There were some chair projects going on as well!  I paid a buck for this chair at an auction.  After a couple of coats of apple green paint it has a new life in my garden!

Dan took our old metal lawn chairs and gave them a new lease on life!  He re-did these with spray paint and I love how they turned out! I am always amazed at how precise and perfect his painting is.

Colorful and whimsical, just how I like them!

It's hard to believe that this is the same patio that is now just buried more than knee-deep in snow!

One of hubby's biggest project was re-doing this old picnic table.  Honestly, I didn't think it could come out looking good but I trust my husband and his ability.  It was warped and splintered and just plain falling apart!

He tore this baby apart piece by piece!  He planed down the wood, sanded, primed and painted!

He then he put it all back together again!  He even used new screws as the nails were just shot and worthless!
I was so proud of him and I love how it turned out!!!

With that in mind, it was time for me to get busy!  Katie needed a dresser for her baby girl to be!
I decided we would just use her old childhood dresser instead of spending a lot of money on something that really wasn't what we wanted.

I sanded and primed and painted the drawers!  Her color's are lilac and green so I bought a quart of each.
Instead of spending money on new drawer handles I simply primed and painted the old ones!

I found these cute little knobs at Hobby Lobby for the top drawer!  Total cost of make-over was about $21.00.
And daughter loves it!!!

Thanks to some great blog tutorials I learned how to make these cute little booties for my daughter's baby shower!  I love how they turned out!

And I made a diaper cake too!  Aren't bloggers the best?  They share their ideas and talents so that you can give it a try too.

In 2010 I planted gladiolas for the first time and they actually grew!
I was so proud to have these on my dining room table and plan on planting more of these babies in 2011.
And speaking of flowers, I tried my hand at flower arranging and................

I actually got a blue ribbon at our local county fair!!

One of our bigger projects was redoing this bedroom that had been my daughters.  I wanted it light and airy and a place for baby too.

And it had to be on a very tight budget.  The room had been painted a very dark color and I just didn't think it fit.  So we painted using a color called spa, wallpapered with look alike wainscoting wallpaper for a fraction of the cost.  I bought a new spread and we re-did my daughter's 20 year old crib.  Plus a few new accessories and we completed this room for only $115.00!

And the very bes-test project of all was becoming a Grandma for the first time!  Here's little Addison meeting her uncle Joshua for the very first time!

Opening presents with Mommy on Christmas Eve.

And just being the joy of our lives!!  This little girl had 5 Christmas's to go to and she is quite tuckered out!

Checking out 8 month old Emalee's dress!  They were both so interested in each other's dress, it was so cute!
Little Addison will be 3 months old on the 3rd of January and the really big news is that come next July, she will have a little cousin!
My son Joshua and his wife Dawn are expecting their first baby!
And that will make me a Grandma again!
Oh Joy!
Thanks for coming by everyone and please come back on the 1st as I am having a blog-a-versary!!!
Cindy

  7. Such cute babies! Christmas with children is so much better:) All your projects made me realize I don't think I had any real projects in 2010...or at least they weren't all that memorable cause I don't remember any! So many things I'd like to do but lack of time, money, and know-how seems to freeze up any creativity I wish I had! Happy New Year...and bring on more projects for me to drool over:)

  12. Oh what fun Cindy - another grandbaby in 2011! Congratulations! Addison looks so cute in her Christmas dress, and the bow on her head just proves she's the best Christmas present ever! You have had a busy year, filled with wonderful projects. I remember all of them, and it was fun to be reminded of them again in this post. Your porch make over and that bedroom make over are just incredible. You and your husband could make a living at creating all of the wonderful treasures you two create. Wishing you a wonderful 2011. Sounds like you're off to a good start with another grandbaby being expected. laurie

  19. Hey Girlfriend, I loved all your projects.. Your talent is overflowing and impressive and your decorating is enough to make me jealous.. Yes, JEALOUS....I sent my sister a link to your blog, and some stolen pics from it and she visited it and she said, "I enjoyed her blog too. Smart girl!" So there you have it..both of our seals of approval..I know that you were waiting for those!! :-) :-)

So when you come to visit this summer you need to bring a trailer... I have two lawn chairs like your blue and yellow ones, except mine are waay old, dilapidated, peeling paint and rust galore... they will be a real challange for your hubby, and after he finishes them I will have a place to sit when I come and visit you!!! I was thinking about ditching them, now I have changed my mind, you can work your magic on them!!!! I think about a lot of things I got rid of this year that we (I really mean YOU) could have given a new life..don't worry, I still have lots of stuff begging for an update or re-do!!! I am sure you will teach Addison your tricks of the trade.. till I saw your blog I had never ever heard of tablescapes...I just put a table cloth on it, a center piece and called it DONE... Oh by the way, I have tons of old table cloths, placemats and napkins from my MIL so hopefully you will be able to salvage some for your projects!!!!

Here is a test for you.. we have lots of yuccky chain link fence.. can you think of anything to do with it?????

Glad Josh and his wife made it for Christmas..congrats on becomming a grandma again!!!

    hope to see you soon,

    Hugs and kisses,

    Cheri

  27. Hi Cindy! Happy New Year! You had so many great projects and each of them turned out nicely. But I agree that the best one of all is being a grandma. Aren't grandkids just the best creations? Come to think of it, I had a brand new grandkid in 2010 too, it was just earlier in the year....Christine

  30. Addison is so adorable Cindy! Oh you lucky woman - another grandbaby! Sean had five Christmas visits also. Although he was so ready for bed by the end of the day, he had a lot of fun.

I liked your hutch makeover and burlap placemats so much that they are on my project list for 2011.

You had so many fabulous project in 2010. I cannot wait to see what you come up with in 2011!

  31. Hi Girlfriend...

Ohhh my gosh...you're going to be Grandma again!!! What fabulous news, sweet friend...I am sooooo excited for you and for Joshua and his wife!!! This is sooo awesome!!! I loved getting to see your family Christmas photos...it was truly a special Christmas for your family! Little Addison looked just like a pretty little Christmas doll! Hehe! She sure is a cutie! Thank you so much for sharing your photos and GRAND news with us!!!

Well dear friend, you really did have a busy year! I loved all of your projects and it was so much fun watching your home transform before my very eyes! Girl, I still swoon everytime I see that gorgeous hutch of yours! I love the pretty red toile fabric that you backed the shelves with...sooo pretty! Hey...I was eyeing those dishes on the bottom shelf...do they have birds on them? Hmmm...and why haven't I seen those before??? Hehe...I sound like the dish patrol...don't I! You'll have to tell me all about them! They sure looked pretty...and so did all of your pretty blue and white dishes!

I loved all of your projects! Of course, one of my favorites was your front porch redo! I just adore how that turned out...and of course you know...it was the inspiration for my little patio redo! Girlfriend, I read your sweet note...it really does just seem like yesterday that we sat on the porch swing and visited...doesn't it? Missing you, sweet friend! I hope that we can do it again!

I also enjoyed seeing Katie's room and the nursery transformation! I just think you did a fabulous job on that! I love it! Did Katie take that pretty lavender and green dresser with her or are you using it in that room? Love, love, LOVE how that turned out! Ohhh...and I can't forget Dan's work on your picnic table...he's such a sweet and talented guy!!!

Well sweet friend, thank you so much for sharing your creativity and many talents with us...and your beautiful home! I loved going back through your year of projects!

It sounds like we are finally going to get some snow...and it the way of a blizzard. It's supposed to start tomorrow afternoon and go through Friday. They are saying 8-10 in. which doesn't sounds like a huge deal but we are supposed to get big wind with it...so you know what that means! I'm hoping that we don't lose power...eeks! If we do, we'll be fine though! So glad that we have the wood stove! Well, and we do have a generator if needed! Have you guys dug out at your place yet? Hehe!

Love ya, sweet friend! Wishing you and all of your sweet family a blessed Happy New Year!!!

  32. Hi Cindy! You asked about my cabinets and Silestone....I love the Silestone! It is fantastic! We have had it about 6 years - no regrets. My Hubby researched it thoroughly before we got it. It was actually approved for Wolfgang Puck's professional kitchen (normally reserved for stainless countertops) because it is non-porous. Unlike granite (which needs to be sealed periodically), Silestone does not have to be sealed. You would like my pattern - it has lots of flecks of tan and brown, with some blue and white. However, it really looks neutral. I think it is called blue sahara - not sure. Now, about the cabinets, my hubby does EVERYTHING around our house. He is handy like your hubby, and can build furniture, paint, install crown mold, etc. HOWEVER, in this case, we had someone do this that specializes in cabinet re-dos. It was cleaned, primed, painted a creamy white, glazed, and has some sort of sealer on it. Anything I splatter on the doors wipes off easily. After 5 years, they still look great. Also, the glazing helps with any booboos that could occur. I would choose both the cabinet color and the Silestone again in a heartbeat. Hope I've answered your questions! Happy New Year! Linda

  33. Well, congratulations are in order! Again! I love all your projects. I especially love the painting that was done outdoors. He's good! I can't paint worth diddly, so this always amazes me. Of course the flowers are raves too. I'm not much of a flower arranger either. (But I can plant gardens!) Your granddaughter is the greatest creation, though of course you didn't have much to do with that one except have her mother! Happy New Years, Cindy!

  38. I just had to come by and wish you a Happy New Year, I always love visiting your blog and now you've gone and reminded me of some of my favorite posts. I remember copying the directions for those 4th of July placemats and how impressed I was when your hubby redid that picnic table. You two make a great team!

Honestly Cindy, you are such an inspiration and have such a sweet soul, I wish only the best for you and yours in the coming year. AND, now I find out another grandchild is on the way? Honey, I am so jealous I can't stand it!!!!! I've been waiting almost 20 years for my second one! I have now come to the conclusion that I will be a great-grandma before I ever see another grandchild, lol.

My favorite picture today? Those two little fashionistas admiring each other's dresses with that gorgeous snow scene as a backdrop, absolutely adorable.

  39. What a productive year! Love the red toile, and, of course, your bedroom/nursery! Your family is lovely and Addison adorable! Isn't being a grandma the best!!!? And adding another baby next year ~ what a blessing! My little granddaughter is now 1 and starting to walk. Last Christmas she slept through the gift opening but was so cute on her daddy's lap.
    Enjoy the new year!
