Pottery Barn Pillow Wanna Be!

I love this pillow from Pottery Barn!  But for $39.00, it just wasn't in my budget right now.
So I scoured GW and found a white sweater that I thought would work.  I paid $5 for the sweater
and I purchased an  XXL so that I could make a bigger pillow.

And here is my version!  I just cut off the sleeves of the sweater, measured for the size of the pillow, this one is 16x18, cut and sewed just a couple of seams.  Super easy and a whole lot cheaper! I am thinking of buying a red holiday sweater and making a pillow out of that as well.

I also made some soft gold pillows for some added warmth.  I found this really soft corduroy fabric at a fabric outlet I like.  It was 9.95 a yard but.... I had a 60% off coupon to use.
Then I bought some goose down pillows to put inside.  They were only 6.50 a piece at this same fabric  outlet ............  and that was for the 18x18 size!

I paired it up with the pillows I made earlier this year.  They have more of a summery look so I wanted these to be more warm and cozy looking.

Another view.  I also made the pillow in the middle as well.
Well my friends, we are supposed to be getting nasty weather today.  Right now they're predicting freezing rain.
I would much rather have snow.  The freezing rain is just the worse to drive on.
On Thanksgiving we are off to my brother Matt's home.  He has a large, very nice heated garage that works for our big family.  They set up lots of tables, have a  huge buffet table plus we can go in and out of his large home as needed.
Since we have such a large extended family, it's the only place we can fit!  At Christmas we all go to a water-park and rent a motel or condo.  The kids like it and so do the adults.  Wisconsin Dells which is the Water-park Capital of the World is just down the road from us.
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
I have so much to be thankful for and I am hoping you all do too!

Behind your new gold pillows on the blue couch, I can "spy" your banister - - - it makes me chuckle to remember the TIME we had trying to use that banister to take our own photo!!!

Oh, I'm so glad to hear about the primer from your husband. I'm going to use that the next time!
Oh, I didn't use stencils on the highchair - I just drew and painted.
    Be a sweetie,

  9. Well girl, you truly couldn't tell the difference in the sweater pillows 'cept ya have more moola in your pockets to spoil that babe! :o)

Amazin' what ya can do with a little ingenuity and a pair of scissors!!! Heeehehehe!

It's warm this morn' but Mr. Weatherman say's the temps are gonna drop like a rock this afternoon. I've been out tryin' to see how close I could get to some of the wild~eyed cattle armed with my camera. Yep, I'm a brave woman. I needed one up close and personal for my next post.

God bless ya sweetie and enjoy this Thanksgiving week!!!

  12. Oh wow!! These pillows are gorgeous. I almost bought the pillow from PB awhile ago {now you can make me one!!} ;-D. For someone just starting to sew you are doing really well...sweaters can't be easy! Gorgeous!

I hope we don't get the same weather. It is 64 degrees now and rainy. It's almost too muggy.

I am getting so psyched about getting together. It's going to be a ball. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving. It's just us and the kids for dinner but then a lot of family for dessert. My house is SO small but we are all used to that. Makes things cozier!! lol!

    Jane

  14. OH Cindy! This is a fantastic idea! I may even have sweaters here I can do that with...I am just delighted with this idea! Thank you so much for sharing it. :)
Also..thank you for your input on my recent post with my reference to family and problems. It has been a nightmare since Mothers Day though nothing to do with me. Thank heavens. Still...watching and hearing about it all is slowly taking it's toll on me as I can see all sides...
A little postive thinking and lots of prayers so far has not helped but...I have to have faith that my children will realize that the path they are chosing (who did what to whom and who said what to who and why..) isn't going work. Starting over is the only thing that can be done. There is simply no other way. Some just cannot find their way to saying...I was to blame as well. LOL Isn't that only too human? NOT a good thing. So..time will tell.
As my daddy used to say "it will all come out in the wash!"
I must write to Nezzy and tell her that one. :)
Many hugs and lots of love. Have a great and peaceful Thanksgiving week and do tell your dear mother hello for me.

  19. Hi Cindy, sorry it's been awhile since I've been by. Your pillows are great. Eveytime I go to Goodwill I see clothing that I think would look great as a pillow!

Loved your black and white harvest tablescape. Those placemats are really cool! Your grandaughter looks all ready for some mashed potatoes! My sister's girl is being fashionably late. If she isn't here by Wed. they are inducing her on Thursday. That will be great talk around the table for Thanksgivings to come!
    Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  29. Hi Girlfriend...

Ohhh...you have been a busy little bee, Darlin'! You always make the prettiest pillows! I just adore your white sweater pillow...it turned out beautifully! I had seen the PB pillow...they have some gorgeous pillows but eeeks...they are sooo expensive! I can't believe that you were able to make the same pretty pillow for just a fraction of the cost! BRAVO!!! Ohhh...and I love your gold cordoroy pillows...they pair perfectly with the stiped pillows that you made! Gorgeous, my friend!!! The gold really does warm the color scheme up and looks great on your blue sofa! You did GOOD, Girlfriend!

Well, it sounds like ya'll are going to have a fabulous Thanksgiving!!! What fun...to have so many of your family be able to gather together! Enjoy!!! You guys be careful while traveling though...sounds like you're in for some nasty weather. We have been having that here for the last couple of days. The roads have been really icy. I think it's supposed to be nice for Thanksgiving though...hoping so!

Well dearest friend, wishing you and your sweet family a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving!!!

    Love ya,
    Chari

  32. Hi Cindy Sweetie...
What a beautiful share. Love this idea. I have seen some of these in the store as well, and they look so cute. You did a beautiful job, and have sent us all searching our closets for sweaters now. You'll have to make a baby sweater one for the wee one. How sweet would that be?

Well like Jamie said we are having a cool spell here in the valley. I go to work at 5am so I actually had to wear a sweater the last couple of mornings. It was to cool for my asthma, and I certainly don't want to get pneumonia again. Once this year is enough.

Your table setting was absolutely exquisite. I loved it. Everything looked so festive sweet friend. That little turkey in her cute outfit was the best part of the post. Don't you just love being a Grammy?

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Sweet Friend. I am so thankful for our friendship. Many hugs and so much love, Sherry

  41. Cindy, you are so smart! Those pillows are P.B. worthy! How smart of you to use a sweater on that one. Love the idea of a holiday sweater turned pillow. (Oh how I wish I didn't hate to sew). Your gold pillows are so pretty and add just the right amount of pop on that blue sofa. I bet your family has a blast when you all get together. laurie
