Tablescape Thursday/ or Guess who's coming to dinner?

Welcome to another Tablescape Thursday. Susan is our hostess and you can follow this link http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/ to her amazing blog and for more wonderful tablescapes. While visiting Galena, Illinois last weekend my Hubby and I were able to view a very historical tablescape.

Let's knock on the door and go inside. (Click to enlarge)

Maybe some of these distinguished gentlemen will join us.

The table is set for an intimate affair.

If you look closely, you will see the G monogrammed on the china. This was President Grant's personal family china.

A closer view.

This plate comes from their White House days. President and Mrs. Bush were the last to use these.

Our hostess is Mrs. Grant. She was a popular first lady.

A closer look at some of the silver. All pieces are original. Now would the gentlemen like an after dinner cigar? President Grant loved his cigars and thousands have been sent to him from all over the world. Hope you enjoyed this historical tablescape.

  3. Great tour, Cindy! I LOVE visiting historical sites, especially historical homes...so this was a real treat! And monogrammed china...I'm think I'm in love! That combines two of favorite things...china and monogramms! :-) I love the yellow (White House) china, too! How about the rug in the dining room...busy, but I love it! (I loved clicking on the pics to enlarge them.) :-) Susan

  12. The history teacher in me is green with envy! Galena looks like a great place to visit. Since DH is such a big Civil War buff, we would love to see Grant's home. Even if our folks fought against him. Thanks for sharing! :D Jewel

  17. My sister and I visited Galena a few years ago while on a month-long trip in her motorhome, going wherever the road would take us. We spent the 4th of July in Galena and sat on the curb watching the parade go by and then did a but city tour. What a treasure of a town. I can see why you like to revisit it again and again!........Judi :-)

  18. Hi Cindy...

So happy that you stopped by to take a peek at my Spring and Green tablescape...thank you so much for your sweet comments! You asked about the table and chairs. No, I didn't paint them...the table I found at an antique market...I left it as is, even though it's all chipped up and missing some paint! Hehe! Just part of the charm...hehe! Thanks for asking!

So interesting...Grant's china...it's gorgeous, isn't it? Love the band of pink with the gold and the ornate monogram! I just love dishes...it's a good thing that I'm not the first lady, I'd probably break the country buying china! Hehe!!! At least we'd have dishes to show for the money spent...instead of padding some "fat cat executive's pocket". But then you don't want to get me started on that...wink!

Have a terrific Thursday, my friend!

  24. Great post for Tablescape Thursday. Did they have several service plates stacked at each place setting? I wouldn't want to serve that party! But that china is so pretty. laurie
