I would like to take you on a tour today of the lovely homes of Charleston! It's hot and humid but we will be in such awe that we won't care!

A lovely garden.
A yard shot! This home was built by a wealthy businessman after the war and today is owned by a D.C. lawyer who splits his time between this home and his one in D.C.
Another view of his lovely gardens! This is one of the few homes where the owner occupies the home and still allows tours!
For some reason, I just got a kick out of this guy! It doesn't take a lot to amuse me!
I just love the porches on this home! They were built this way, facing the ocean to get the breezes during the long hot summers! And oh my gosh, what gorgeous views!
I love this pink one, it's one of my favorites! I just couldn't get enough of all the lovely hydrangeas! When we couldn't take the heat anymore, my hubby would just drive me up and down the streets while I ooohed and aaahed! He enjoyed them too, he just doesn't ooh and aah as much as I do.
Oh just look at this beauty! The history, the details of the architecture!
How about a visit to this one! They have the big gas lanterns everywhere!

Oh, Cindy... it is truly wonderful! One of the things I love most about Charleston are the formal gardens. They are just so charming. The houses, too. I have loved this city for many years, and I miss visiting there more than I can ever tell you. I spent many a Christmas shopping on King Street and enjoying all the sights, sounds, and tastes of Charleston.

I only went to Charleston once, but from what I remember, you have captured it's grace, charm, and elegance delightfully!!! Only thing, I don't see even one carriage house. I was really fascinated by those. A doctor friend of ours and his wife lived in one while he attended medical school there. I was way jealous.

Oh My Cindy, what a beautiful place to visit, I am ashamed to tell you that as close as I live to Charleston, I have never visited. now It is a must see on my list. I had to smile a little when you were talking about the heat, Living up north I bet you don't have this kind on steamy humidity. LOL And it gets much more intense as summer strolls along. LOL. I am so glad you enjoyed your trip. Thank you for sharing.

ReplyDeleteWe were only there a day or two. It was part of a road trip, we took, that started in St Louis, then to Colonial Williamsburg, down through the Outer Banks to Brookgreen Gardens and on to Charleston, 4 years ago. Unforgettable fabulous memories!

I really enjoyed every photo you featured today. I could feel the heat and humidity when I saw the wet streets. The homes are so gorgeous on the outside that I can hardly imagine the grandure of the insides!

Charleston is one of my all time favorite places to visit. We've actually been there 3 times. And now, I'm ready to go again. I know you enjoyed it but July is just too hot. We've been in the early Spring and mid Spring but not the summer.

ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to visit again. I had a 4 day break over the 4th and I just can't seem to catch up on my blogroll!! But I am happy to have read these last 2 posts...you know I was in Charleston in April and had a great time!! I think we have some of the same pictures! But I will say that you captured more beautiful homes with your camera that me!! I spent way too much time in the shopping area! LOL!!! You may have had the heat, but we had rain. I'd return in a heartbeat though!!
So when are you coming to Chicago?? Is there an event you would like to see?? I hear that hotel rates are down a bit because of the economy...Do I sound like I would love for you to visit just a bit?? Ha ha!!

ReplyDeleteOhhh my...I am enjoying all of these tours through historic Charleston!!! And...I have decided that I must...I MUST have big ol' columns in my backyard garden!!! Hehe!!! Isn't that fabulous? The gardens of the first home were breathtaking!!! Ohhh...and don't even get me started on that house! Hehe! I love the way they did the black brick around the windows and cornerstones of the home! And that pretty white filigree adornment above the windows...ahhhh!!! But I think my favorite was the rounded porches...ohhh, to be rich!!! I certainly could invision some beautiful teas and dinner parties out on those porches!!! I bet the interior was fabulous as well...sure wished they would have let you take photos!
Loved all of the homes and your photos are really superb, Darlin'! I really think I missed my calling...I wished that I would have studied architecture! I have always been intriqued and just stand in awe of some of the beautiful...fabulous homes and buildings that I've seen! Thank you so much for sharing your trip to Charleston with us...I thoroughly enjoyed it!!!

Cindy, your photographs are gorgeous, and you are so pretty. That entryway to the first home is soooo stunningly beautiful! It's been so long since I was in Charleston, (pre-hurricane), and I know there has been a lot of restoration. You sure made me want to go back! laurie

Cindy, thanks for the wonderful tour - so gorgeous! It's been years since we've been to Charleston, and I am asking myself "why?". I noticed the seemingly useable shutters in the pics. I remember in France that they close shutters during the day to keep out the heat - probably the same in old Charleston. Lovely!
