Thrifty Valentine Centerpiece
If your at all like my family, then your finances are tight come the end of January.
We are still paying off Christmas and then property taxes come due the end of January. And Wisconsin is kind of well known for our high property taxes.
So what's a gal to do? Shop my house of course!
.
I made fabric hearts out of scrap fabric and just gathered up some items to create this little table centerpiece.
Nothing fancy, definitely homespun. But it brightened my day and these little hearts are easy and take no time at all.
Cost: Zero dollars.
Did you all enjoy the Superbowl? My hubby is a football fanatic specifically the Green Bay Packers. I enjoyed the halftime show and of course the commercials. I think my favorite one was the Budweiser one, they are so well done.
And the farmer with Paul Harvey, is that amazing or what.
However my friend Linda, also a blogger made one up like that in honor of her Dad over a year ago. Check it out at...Reminisce This and That.

Shopping the house works for my budget also. I have lots of extra expenses this time of the year.
ReplyDeleteNot a football fan. The Paul Harvey and Budweiser commercials were my favorite also.
LOVE Red and White!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it here in this post, and in the pictures, which the pic-in-Sidebar link to.
LOVE IT!!!

Oh and did I say that the word "Cottage", always invites me to come by and peek. I'd so love to live in a cottage myself/ourselves.
ReplyDeleteYour blog name (Applestone Cottage), is precious.

I love the thirty centerpiece...wonderful!! I did something a little similar last year...I buy old wool clothing for my appliques and I had quite a few pink and red pieces, so I made hearts of wool...on some of them I mimicked the candy hearts by putting little sayings on them...it was a fun easy project that I can use for years!
ReplyDeleteLove your center piece.....didn't watch the Super Bowl but have heard all about it and the commercials
ReplyDeleteI miss Paul and the rest of the story broadcasts. the ad brought back fond memories. Love your red and white tablescape!
ReplyDeleteOhhh, nooo, where has my urge to create gone? What a cute certerpiece. I used to ..you know, create things, but no more. I buy what others have the talent to make. I guess my day's of being creative like that are over. Love it.
ReplyDeleteWell, I loved the game! My team lost.. :( but I'm a good sport. NOT!
What a cliff hanger! Also loved the halftime. Question...why the heck did so many helmets come flying off and rolling across the field! ???
I love your homespun centerpiece. I am all about doing things with frugality and your little vignette turned out darling. I've made some fabric hearts too, but just can't seem to find the right container to display them. Anyway, I am your newest GFC follower. I'd love for you to stop by http://posedperfection.blogspot.com for a visit sometime and maybe even follow me back. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Nici
Cindy, your fabric hearts are darling. What pretty scrap fabric you have in your stash! Your centerpiece is bright and cheerful. Perfect Valentine!
ReplyDeleteYes, the winter months are hard here too. At 4.00 a gal for oil to heat the house, Jan and Feb are wicked, and the property taxes too! Are yours as high as here in NY?
ReplyDeleteHow do people afford to go on vacations? I haven't been away in 25 yrs!
Our gas went up 20 cents a gal in one week, almost 4 for that too!
Your centerpiece is so pretty and cheerful! I am sure it brightens these dreary winter days!
I hope you are well!
Your fabric hearts are wonderful! I love homespun. Each year I wish I had spent some time on crafting some hearts for Valentine's day, so I must change that!
ReplyDeleteThe centerpiece is darling. I loved that you found everything in your own home. I loved the Bud commercial too!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a sweet centerpiece, Cindy, the hearts are precious! Red looks so good in your kitchen. I didn't watch the game but looked at some of the commercials on You Tube today, the Budweiser one made me want to cry!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the birthday card, sweetie!! :)
XO,
Jane
Hi Cindy! I love your little centerpiece. The little hearts are so sweet. Love your tablecloth too. Everything is just perfect.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
I am determined to finish all the unfinished projects I have piled here and there. Thank you for inspiring me to get creative with what I already have in my home!
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you Cindy for linking to my "So God Made a Farmer" video on my blog. I have yet to hear Paul Harvey's moving narration without crying. :)
Very cute. Karie
ReplyDeletethe fabrics you chose for your hearts make a great combination, the look so good together. Excellent job of bringing it all together!
ReplyDeleteYour centerpiece is just perfect! I'm working on one for my dining table too, pulling quilted hearts and whatever I find in my house too. Not quite finished with it but soon will have it on my blog.

Oh I love it Cindy. The basket and all the hearts are so pretty and the tray is fabulous. I really like the candle and that cute, cute, cute little cow pitcher. Thanks for linking to TTT. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteLove your centerpiece and your tablecloth. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteI'm just getting round to Valentine's Day. I also tried to be thrifty, therefore I went through all my scraps and found anything with red or pink in it, cut out a heart, then sewed them all together to make a garland for over the fireplace. Lots of colors and patterns but, very heartfelt. I kinda love it!
ReplyDeleteYour centerpiece is darling and the entire vignette is full of love.
The birds are gorgeous and really stand out in the snow. It looks freezing cold where you live but winter has its own kind of beauty and your cottage in the snow looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love your centerpiece, Cindy and I love that you shopped the house.:-)
ReplyDeleteBesides all those things you mentioned there is income tax. We have our stuff gathered up to take on Friday...we like to get that over with by the first of February...it's like having major surgery LOL. We take it to a CPA, because we would be in a lot of trouble if we tried to do it on our own.;-)
Cindy, your little hearts are so pretty, and I love the tablecloth. This does make such a pretty Valentine centerpiece. laurie
ReplyDeleteCute centerpiece, Cindy and I'm all about "Home" shopping these days, too!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I hear you on the high WI property taxes...ouch! I loved the farm /Ram commercial. And of course, the highlight of the week was Donald Driver retiring. Oh how we will miss him! Glad he is a Packer for life! Jane
DeleteThese hearts are so so pretty and look wonderful in the basket! So happy to have found your blog. The snow covered barn picture is gorgeous. Happy Valentine's Day...a few days early.

I came by for a closer look at your fabric hearts! They are adorable! Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteOh, how I love your Valentine's vignette. It is pure sweetness and so happy with all the splashes of red checked gingham and hearts.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and a very Happy Valentine's Day!

Beautiful vignette! So sorry I took so long getting here--but I'm now following you, too--from The Country Farm Home! Have very much enjoyed my visit and will be back often!
