Met. Monday/ And a Pass it Along Give-away!

Hi all my lovely blogger friends!  I am joining Susan @ Between Naps on the Porch for Met. Monday.  Last week I showed you my guest room and the progress we have made.

Off to the right is a big empty wall that has been giving me fits!  It's hard to see here but it is as blank as can be and I am looking for ideas to fill it.  The ideas need to be frugal too with Christmas just around the corner.   I would like bead board but that will probably have to wait until next summer.  In the meantime, I decided to paint an old shelf I had and use that as a starting point.
The before: an old pine shelf very popular in the 90's.

A couple coats of red spray paint and it's looking better already.  I would like to fill it with white ironstone for a pretty contrast.  The other thing I wanted to change was the big heart. So last night when hubby and I were shopping at Home Depot we came up with an idea.  Why not buy a decorative tile to cover the heart and add some architectual interest.

We found this, it's a pretty big tile, about 5 inches across and has a  neat scrolly design.  I think the cost was about $2.

We are using Goop glue and letting it dry overnight  .  Instant, presto, brand new shelf with an updated look!  Next week I'll show you how it looks mounted on the wall.   Now on to my give-away!

A few weeks ago, I won these darling apple placemats from Dawn @ Cottage State of Mind.  This was a pass it along give-away meaning that I would have a give-away in the future to pass along some cheer.  Well, with the spirit of Christmas upon us I thought this would be a great time!   The rules are that you are a follower or become one and that sometime in the future you will have a pass it along give-away too!
The winner will receive...

This cute little Christmas angel.

A gingerbread oven mitt perfect for keeping your little fingers from getting burned.

And this victorian looking Christmas ornament handmade by me!   They would look cute on a tree or hanging from a peg as I have shown here.

Here's another one I made.  Just leave me a comment and  I will announce the winner next Sunday !  Have a great week everyone and if you have any frugal decorating ideas for my blank wall please let me know.   Cindy

  4. Your guest room is just gorgeous and the shelf will be so pretty. You might find some great pics on the internet and print them out and frame them in homemade frames. You know the kind that you cut out of cardboard and cover with fabric or burlap. Or some great GW frames. Your giveaway is wonderul. Everyone of your gifts are special. Hugs, Marty

  6. You have some good ideas here. Make sure you don't add too many small items which make the room look cluttered. Go with a big piece for pizazz and then add in the smaller ones if and when needed.

  12. Cindy sometimes I shop my house- look in your closets- basement- garage for something that you have totally forgotten you had for that wall space to the right. Some pretty plates in you china cabinet, maybe with Christmas coming a wreath. I was at our Habitat Restore and they have all kinds of cabinet doors for just a dollar or 2. Maybe painting it and coming up with a clever saying to paint on it- Oh Dollar tree had really sweet sayings (nice ones and very professional looking) for $1! I could kick myself for not picking any up now!

I added your giveaway to my blog - Is that OK?

  13. Hi Girlfriend...

Ohhh...I love your shelf and I love that you painted it red!!! It'll be so pretty against that pretty yellow wall!!! I love this pretty tile that you found at Hobby Lobby...it's perfect for updating your shelf! Girl, you're always so clever and creative!!!

Now...I love the idea of displaying a few white pitchers on that pretty red shelf! You're absolutely right about the contrast...it'll be beautiful! Hmmm...if you're going to use white pitchers, may be you can do a pretty design around the shelf with white plates? I love using plates for wall art and you can find some really pretty plates for mere pennies! Yes...I think plates would be very pretty!

Just another thought...do you remember the wall art I did for my master bedroom where I took pretty scrapbook paper and framed it? Very easy and inexpensive and I love how you can customize the look! There are so many pretty paters out there! You could choose a color and then by all kinds of different patterned papers in that color...just frame them and do a gallery wall! Hmmm...I'll be thinking about it, Girlfriend! Your new red shelf is going to look amazing!!!

Girlfriend, I love this sweet, sweet Christmas angel...she's absolutely precious! Ohhh...and those beautiful Victorian Christmas ornaments that you made...so beautiful!!! Ohhh...I could see an entire tree decorated with those...it would be gorgeous!!! I'd love to enter your "pay it forward" giveaway! Add my name to the pot, Darlin'!!!

Well my friend, I have written a book...once again! Eeekks! But before I go, I was wondering how Katie is feeling? Sure hope that she is doing better...been thinking about her and praying!!! I'll talk with you later, Sweetie!

    Love ya,
    Chari

PS...so glad that you like my finished fireplace! I could hardly wait for you to see it and tell me what you thought! Thank you so much for the sweet compliments...you're the best, my friend!!!

  18. Mornin' Girlfriend...

Just read your sweet note! Glad you liked the idea of the scrapbook paper wall art...the reason I thought about that is because I've seen some gorgeous french provencal papers that would look fabulous with what you're doing in that room! You know...you could even frame pretty fabrics too!

Girl, you're so ambitious! Stringing Christmas lights??? The rule at our house is...Russell takes care of the exterior and I take care of the interior decorations! Hehe! Of course, there is no way that I could do the house lights...not with our 2 story steep pitched roof! But...that sweet man of mine hasn't done lights outside for a couple of years! It really is a big job though! Yes....yes! I'm so excited about starting my Christmas decor...(just between you and me...I've started on the mantel!...hehe!) I just started last night...I have plenty of time to fiddle with it!

Well Darlin'...don't work too hard but enjoy putting up those lights! I bet Applestone Cottage is glorious at Christmas time! Your fabulous home is just made for it!!!

    Have a great day, Sweetie!
    Love ya,
    Chari

  23. Cindy, that red shelf is darling. After I started blogging I regretted giving away a large shelf with a heart cutout. I realized that I could put a wood appliqué on it to cover the heart opening. I really like the tile you used! Linda
