Dog days of summer.

The 4th of July is kind of like the mid-way point of summer.
I love the holiday but I hate that June has left us.
I found this little shirt for Addison at a garage sale for a buck.
The skirt was $5 at Wally's and her bow is left over from last years ribbon stash.
I thought she looked pretty festive for the day.

I love summer and of course it's goes by way too fast.  I want to take in every fair and festival around.  I want to travel, grow flowers and spend time just soaking up the sun.
Over the 4th, we made it down to one of our favorite festivals, River Fest in Lacrosse, WI.   We had little Addison in tow and it was a really fun day!   She got to go down some gigantic blown up slides.

Ride around on a cute little train.

Have her little face painted.

And cool off in the fun fountain/ kiddie wading pools.  There was a magician and a really amazing clown act.  We left with one little tired 2-1/2 year old who kept saying, "I don't want to ever leave, I don't want to ever go home, not ever, not ever. "   hehe.

My flowers are growing like gang busters and filling in beautifully!
We've had beautiful weather lately.  Mostly in the 80's, sometimes humid, sometimes not.  I prefer the not, but the plants seem to like the humid.
And my hydrangeas are making me smile this year!  Last year between the early heat wave and the low rain I had maybe one bloom.  This summer they are full of blooms .
This is a smaller clematis I have near the garage.  It's doesn't get as much sun as my larger one but with the rain and warm temps it's done wonderfully this year.

I planted 6 teeny impatience that I got for a buck.  This old bird bath has worked great as a planter for them.

I have always loved daisies!
And I am thrilled with my lilies!  I put one teeny tiny one in here last summer hoping it might grow.  Well grow it did and divide and bloom!  I am a new lover of lilies, they are amazing plants and I am going searching for some great deals on them to plant mid-summer.
How is your summer going friends?
                                                                                         Cindy

I am joining Seasonal Sunday's at The Tablescaper.

  1. Sounds like you guys had so much fun at the festival, Addison is just so cute, she is really growing. I love all of your wonderful flowers, they look so pretty. My yard is looking really, really bad with all this heat, but then it always does this time of year. Can't wait to see you this fall. Hugs, Marty

  2. Oh Cindy, your flowers are stunning! Love hydrangeas!
And Addison's swim suit is adorable!
You & Dan are just the best grandparents.
Thanks for your words of encouragement. Yes, your son lives near me... and now my son will live near you! ha!
But let's hope that when you come for a visit in Oct., I won't be in Wisconsin visiting my son. haha!

  4. How fun, she is adorable. I am so jealous of your temps. Our heat index is 110 or 115 here in Oklahoma. Everything is dying. We are trying to get soaker hoses set up everywhere. We found out yesterday that it's going to rain for the next 3-4 days yippee. Guess the soaker hoses will have to wait a week. I have flower envy.

  5. Can your granddaughter get any cuter? They are so precious at that age. Mine is 13 and she is 5'8 1/2" tall.

  6. This is such a cute outfit on Addison! And wow, her hair is getting so long! You really are great grandparents, taking her on outings that she will always remember. I can't wait to have a few of my own! :)

Your flowers look outstanding! I love what you did with the birdbath. I agree, I think all the rain has played a big part in how our flowers are doing this year. It's a relief to know mine at the lake are getting some while we're not there.

I have a few of those lilies, the range of colors is amazing. I would recommend that you plant them in bunches as they don't multiply like daylilies and they are just stunning in a group!

  8. Your garden looks beautiful! Love the clematis. And is that your grandchild? Adorable! It's lovely to share these snippets of our lives. Our garden is doing quite well considering all the thunderstorms! Some plants are doing better than others. We've had much too much water (I never thought I would ever say that as I love rain).

  10. Addison is a little doll in all of her outfits. Your flowers are doing well. Love the red lilies and the coreopsis. I never have luck with coeopsis here unless I grow them like an annual.

  13. Addison looks gorgeous in her 4th of July outfit. She is clearly having so much fun in all the pics.
Your garden is looking good. I am so jealous of your lilies, the lily beetles have all but destroyed mine.

  14. Addison is growing up so fast. She looks like a little girl now, not a baby and so darling in her red, white and blue! We are almost tropical down here. We had literally months of rain and now that the sun is out, with all the standing water still around and temps in the high 90's, it is steamy and awful but at least not dry and hot like last year. We spent a week in Michigan a couple weeks ago and everyone was complaining about the humidity. We were laughing because it wasn't humid at all compared to summers in Illinois!

  15. Hi Cindy...oh my goodness isn't she a pretty little thing. I remember when you announced her birth! She looks a bit older than 2-1/2 doesn't she?
Looks like a great time at Riverfest.
Oh and your flowers - I won't get started on mine. My hydrangea isn't even blossomed yet!!! Bad year for me with flowers. YOURS ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!
    Blessings,
    Karen

  19. Cindy, Addison is losing her little baby look. She's a little beauty. I love what she said about leaving the festival. Your flowers are beautiful, and I LOVE the impatients in the bird bath. It looks like a topiary. I always said that my Dan married me because I was such a cheap date. I'd rather have daisies than roses! Have a great weekend, sweet Cindy. laurie
