Met. Monday/The Brass Bed

Hi All, it's Monday and I hope you  had a pleasant week-end.  Our's was uneventful but nice.  I am joining our hostess Susan for Met. Monday and Flea Market Style for their first ever blog party!  Please visit their awesome blogs  for tons of inspiration! Normally, I would have had my post up last night but I was  feeling a bit too tired.  Dan and I are working on creating a guest room.  The pic above is of the bedding that we will use.  I ordered it on E-Bay and I just had to share a little pic of it.   I am very happy with the quality of the bedding and I love the cottage/french country look of it.   But first the bed.

I would have loved to find an iron bed but for now I will make do with this one.  The before, above, a brass headboard purchase at a garage sale several years ago.  When I started on this it was still beautiful and sunny and in the 70's.  My hubby gave it one final, I will fix Cindy's mistakes coat yesterday. LOL.  He is really good at this and although I did most of the work, he gave it the final coat and fixed some of my boo boos.

And here is the after!  It took a coat of primer and several coats of off white spray paint to cover the ugly brass.  We are almost done painting the room.  It's taken several coats because the color was dark and we're going lighter.  I hope to have some pics to share next week.   Have a great week everyone and thanks for stopping by.   Cindy

  6. oooooooooooh, I am loving the spread!! Does the person on Ebay sell this stuff all of the time or was it a one time thing. It is beautiful!! I love the results of the painting of the bed---really pretty. It sooooooo reminds me of some beds in a cottage we spent weekends in in the summertime!! This cottage was right on the beach in CT and the beds were all like the one you have only they were double beds . The beds were all painted but I remember one was pink!! ha!! anyways nice to see this and I hope to see it when it is all finished!!

  11. Cindy, first of all, I love the bedding you found. Isn't eBay fun??? And I really like the headboard sprayed white. Would you believe that Mr. Magpie and I gave an iron bed we had to a friend years ago. They needed it for their guest room and had just bought our house. So it was a gift. I went to visit them the other day, and they had passed it on to some other friends for their new home. Kind of like the gift that keeps on giving. :-) I have to confess that I wish I still had it! We bought it with an old house we restored, and it was in rusty shape. Steve (the guy we sold our next house to) had the patience to paint it. Wish I had! ;-)

    Love to you...

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  13. Hi Cindy, The best part of having this giveaway at Always Nesting is I have been exposed to wonderful blogs like yours.

I love that bed! Great job. Question...did you need to put anything, like a lacquer, over the paint?

  18. Hello Girlfriend...

I'm just coming from your Sunday Favorites post...left you a note there! Well dear...for having an uneventful weekend...you sure got some projects done! Hehe! I just love that pretty headboard! It looks great in its new creamy white dress too! Ohhh...can't wait to see it put together with that fabulous new quilt/comforter that you got! You're right...it looks so french...reminds me of Provence...all those beautiful vibrant reds, blues, and yellows!!! It's gorgeous!!! Girlfriend, you're going to have me dancing on one foot and then the other...waiting to see the reveal! Hehe! I didn't know that you were working on your guest room. Looks like the walls are chocolate brown now...what color did you paint them? Ohhh..ohhh...please don't make me wait for the reveal! Hehe! Fess up, my friend!

Whew...I'm so glad to be back home and that it's Monday! This weekend was just crazy! After doing the entire 8 hrs. on the road marathon, Russell mentioned that we should have just got a motel up where the kids live...instead of trying to drive it! Would have been nice because by the time we got home Saturday it was too late to do anything and then we were back up just in time on Sunday to head back that way! Crazy...crazy! I did get to go to Hobby Lobby on Saturday though...that was sweet! Found a 3 tiered glass pedistal plates...the kind that you can stack on top of one another for half price! I've been wanting one of those forever...want to use it for a table centerpiece! Anyway...I'm pooped out today but trying to get around to all the Sunday Favorites posts...and get a little of the "weekend aftermath" cleaned up!

Girl...can't wait to see what you've got going in that guest room...love your new frenchy quilt and pretty bed!!!

    Love ya,
    Chari

  19. Cindy,
That quilt is awesome! I love the colors. I just painted my old brass bed too. It was tough getting mine to cover because I forgot to prime it. I was in a hurry to get it done. I like it a lot better now. Yours is gorgeous! Looks like an old iron bed.

    Hugs,
